Tattoo Aftercare

& Integration

Once you’ve received your tattoo the work doesn’t end there, particularly with ones holding the energy of your intentions. Proper care over the next few days and weeks following your session will help you keep your tattoo in the best condition possible and deepen your connection to what you're calling in. A tattoo is an open wound and failure to follow proper aftercare may delay healing and keep your tattoo from looking its best

  • Hand poke tattoos actually heal a bit quicker than machine tattoos as hand poking tends to be a bit more gentle during the tattoo process.

  • Some soreness and redness is normal and you should see improvement within the first 24-48 hours. A small amount of clear or slightly colored fluid can occur. If symptoms persist, worsen or there is concern of infection, reach out to your physician.

  • An itchy tattoo is okay, itching means your tattoo is starting to heal, this is natural. Please do not scratch and/or pick your tattoo!

Your tattoo should be cleaned once a day with lukewarm water and soap.

  • Clean your tattoo with soap that works best for you. A mild, fragrance-free, and dye-free soap is recommended to prevent irritation. Optionally there are tattoo specific soaps you can get. Then pat dry your tattoo with a clean paper towel or cloth and leave to air dry.

(If You’re Traveling)

Please keep in mind the source and cleanliness of the water if you are traveling to rural or remote areas to avoid possible infections.

You can let your tattoo air dry heal for the first 1-2 days before you apply lotion or a balm.

  • Use a non-scented lotion/balm that is hypoallergenic. There are optional tattoo specific balms you can get. I recommend simply using coconut oil. Don’t use vaseline or any petroleum based or derived substance.

  • Apply a thin layer of moisture 3-5 times daily, or as needed for dryness. Continue for 10-14 days or until the tattoo is fully healed.

Don't cover your tattoo up right away with clothing, let it air dry and be free. Wear loose-fitting, clean clothing that will not rub against your tattoo, especially for the first 1-2 days.

 (For Second Skin Bandage)

You can leave the second skin bandage on for 48-72 hours. When removing, pull off slowly in the direction of the hair. It is recommended to do this step in the shower or under lukewarm water. If the bandage comes off before 48 hours, don’t worry. Just clean it as follows and don’t try to replace the bandage.

Tattoo Care

After receiving a tattoo with intention it is important to continue working with it and spend the proper time integrating the energetic shift you’ve called in.

I recommend spending time with things that feel grounding for you. Such as: getting out into nature, personal rituals, meditation, journaling/reflecting, moving your body, nourishing your body, self-care or finding a creative outlet.

A friendly reminder that healing and transformation often doesn’t always appear the way we expect it to look and feel. It's important to give yourself grace, patience and time with your intentions. Controlling the process is what creates resistance, which may delay and limit the potential for what we’re capable of receiving.
